Albany Court Docket Searches
Let the paperwork point the way. A city citation usually names Albany Municipal Court. A county citation points to the countywide Justice of the Peace. Felonies, divorces, district civil suits, and title disputes belong to the 259th Judicial District Court. Probate and juvenile matters can land in the narrow constitutional County Court. Filings for both district and county cases rest with the combined District/County Clerk. The coordinator, though, fields many scheduling questions for the district court. Before you call, gather the essentials. These are the party name, the citation or cause number, the court, the record type, and a rough date. The municipal court offers no online case search, so plan on phone or mail.
- Read the exact court name on the notice.
- Call Albany Municipal Court for a municipal matter.
- Contact the countywide JP for a county citation.
- Use the combined clerk for district or probate records.
- Confirm the date, time, place, and status before appearing.
Albany Has Two Ticket Routes
Albany stands alone in Shackelford County. It is the only city here with a municipal court listed in the current Office of Court Administration directory. That still does not mean every Albany-area ticket goes there. The court printed on the citation controls which route your docket search takes. So do the officer and location.
| Named court | First contact | Typical scope |
|---|---|---|
| Albany Municipal Court | 325-762-3133 | City ordinance and eligible fine-only matters |
| Justice of the Peace | 325-762-9430 | County traffic and countywide fine-only matters |
| 259th District Court | Clerk and coordinator | Felony and district-level cases |
Searching by place name alone can miss the right record, so work from the caption and the citation or cause number.
Inside the Albany Municipal Court
The OCA municipal directory places Albany Municipal Court at P.O. Box 3248, Albany, Texas 76430, with phone 325-762-3133, fax 325-762-3849, and email kenishalucas@albanytexas.org. Belinda Joy Perez serves as presiding judge. Confirm routing before sending anything sensitive. City Hall sits at 425 South 2nd Street. This court handles city ordinances and fine-only Class C matters. It has no power over felonies, probate, district civil cases, or the JP docket. The city site offers no case lookup. Phone or mail is the reliable official channel for court records.
Albany Agendas Are Not Dockets
The city posts agendas and minutes covering council business. Those pages are not municipal court calendars. County meeting notices deal with administration, not judicial hearings. A government calendar and a court docket simply serve different purposes. Ask the court clerk for the current setting instead. An agenda cannot show that a citation was filed, reset, dismissed, or set for trial. A clerk can tell you whether a listed date is a response deadline, docket call, hearing, or trial, and whether a newer notice controls.
Finding Albany Court Dates
That date on your ticket may be a deadline to respond, not a trial date. Ask the court what kind of setting it is: appearance, arraignment, pretrial, compliance date, or trial. If your Albany matter sits at district level, the combined clerk and the district coordinator answer different questions, so direct yours to the right office.
| Date | The current docketed day, subject to reset. |
|---|---|
| Time | Docket-call or individual appearance time. |
| Location | The court or room confirmed by the clerk. |
| Judge | The assigned judicial officer; assignments can change. |
| Setting Type | The purpose of the appearance. |
Weather already disrupted one local schedule: a January 2025 notice canceled and reset a 259th District Court docket. Check your Albany setting shortly before you travel.
Albany Clerk and Coordinator Split
The 259th Judicial District covers Jones and Shackelford Counties. Filed records stay with the combined clerk in Albany, while the district judge and coordinator contacts sit in Anson. Need a petition, order, judgment, or certified copy? Call the clerk at 325-762-9415. For a setting or reset, the 259th District Court coordinator is listed at 325-823-2721.
Local flow: Albany clerk filing › Anson coordinator setting › Albany clerk copy.
The coordinator does not hold the court records, and the clerk does not run the judge's live calendar. Say what you need up front, and you will avoid a dead-end handoff.
Albany Traffic Ticket Lookups
A citation naming Albany Municipal Court should go straight to that court's contact. If it names the countywide JP, call 325-762-9430 and check the official JP page. The traffic and driving-safety form links on that page do not open a document. Request the current form from the court instead. Payment rules matter here. The JP page says personal checks are not accepted. Card payments add $5, and cash should never be mailed. Paying and contesting are different choices, so decide before you send anything. The DPS search only covers recent Highway Patrol citations. It is no substitute for a full Albany court database.
Albany Probate Has Narrow Rules
Government Code §26.309 governs this court. Shackelford County Court has probate and juvenile jurisdiction and nothing else civil or criminal. Do not route an ordinary civil suit there. The word County in the name is not enough. A local standing order dated July 7, 2025 covers self-represented probate applicants. Such an applicant may proceed only when a will exists and the applicant is the sole heir. Pro se guardianships are barred. The clerk keeps the filings while the county judge presides. Juvenile court records also carry strict confidentiality limits.
How Albany Cases Reach the County
Municipal cases stay at the city level unless an appeal applies. Fine-only county matters and small claims begin with the JP. Felonies, divorces, land-title disputes, and district civil cases go to the 259th District Court. Probate and juvenile matters may reach the constitutional County Court.
Docket flow: Albany Municipal Court › appropriate county-level court › Texas appellate courts.
Many justice and municipal courts are not courts of record. Some appeals therefore use trial de novo, which means a fresh trial at the receiving court. District appeals go to the Eleventh Court of Appeals, where you can search once an appellate cause number issues.
Albany Online Search Has Limits
The clerk posts a link to an LGS records-search shell. Nobody promises what it covers. Treat any hit as a lead. It is not proof of a free and complete Albany docket.
re:SearchTX offers statewide electronic case and hearing searches where data is available. Registration, charges, and coverage limits may apply. State materials do not promise complete criminal coverage. eFileTexas lists Shackelford integration for district, county, and probate categories. Integration, though, is not a promise that all images are open.

Albany Copy Requests Need Detail
The combined clerk works from the first floor at 225 South Main Street. Hours are Monday through Thursday. The desk runs 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Friday closes at 4:00 p.m. after the noon break. Mail: P.O. Box 2109, Albany, TX 76430. Fax is 325-762-9416.
Give the court, cause number, style, approximate date, document, and desired copy type. Ask the current fee first. Local fee sheets carry different dates, so an old figure is not a quote. A narrow request also costs less staff search time than a broad one.
Albany Court Records by Channel
Walk-in access pays off when an electronic search turns up nothing. Just remember the courthouse closes at noon. A visitor coming from outside Albany should confirm both the office and the record category before leaving home. The combined clerk may hold district civil, family, felony, probate, or juvenile material. Each category has its own index and access limits. The countywide JP and Albany Municipal Court keep separate lower-court records. Bring a printed citation or notice. That helps staff resolve the venue.
Phone contact works best for a focused question. Say the request concerns an Albany court record, name the court, and ask whether staff can confirm a setting or produce a particular filing. Fax and mail both run through the combined clerk. Sending a request does not guarantee acceptance of an incomplete filing. Ask about format, payment, delivery, and whether an electronic copy is possible. The clerk email shown in an OCA verification report should be confirmed before you send sensitive content.
For older Albany records, ask whether the item sits in LGS, an archival image system, microfilm, or a separate district file. County budget material separates record preservation and archives from the public search interface. A record can exist even when the current web shell shows nothing. Need certification? Say so at the start. A certified copy differs from a plain image and may carry a different fee. Keep the receipt. Keep the clerk's description of what was produced, too.
- Online: use LGS or re:SearchTX as a search lead.
- Phone: verify venue, setting, and request instructions.
- Counter: inspect public material during confirmed office hours.
- Mail or fax: identify the exact document and obtain fee directions.
- District calendar: contact the coordinator rather than the copy desk.
Who Can See Albany Court Records
Texas case records do not follow the ordinary executive-agency Public Information Act route. Judicial open-records policy directs requests to the court or clerk. Rule 12 has limits. It covers judicial administrative records, not every case file.
Some things stay closed. Sealed files, juvenile records, protected addresses, and sensitive identifiers may be withheld or redacted. Rule 21c protects items like Social Security and financial-account numbers. Family Code chapter 58 shields juvenile information.
Key Rules:
Government Code §552.0035 places judiciary information under court rules and other law.
Rule 12 governs judicial administrative records.
Family Code chapter 58 limits juvenile-record access.
